First Day of ENG 24!

To begin our semester, we'll do some simple analysis of animated Disney films to practice the kind of analysis of pop culture we'll be undertaking this semester.

To start with, in a sentence or two, we'll summarize each of the following films: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Princess and the Frog, The Little Mermaid, and Cinderella.

Next, let's look at some humourous recreations of the these films' posters:

How might we infer these messages from the films?

Okay, so it's not actually 20 pages. Read the article "Why We Crave Horror Movies" by Steven King, and e-mail me your response (following the directions for blog posts on your syllabus) tomorrow by midnight!

Finally, be sure to get a copy of the course texts, and bring Reading Pop Culture to class on Monday!

Questions? Quibbles? Controversies?
